Implantology
Dental implants are frequently the best option for replacing missing teeth. Rather than removable dentures, or fixed bridges, dental implants are the long-term replacements of choice.

A dental implant is a metal post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. An artificial tooth (crown) is placed on an extension of the post (abutment) on the dental implant, giving you the look of a real tooth. Dental implants are made of pure titanium, a material that is totally bio compatible (compatible with body tissues) and actually integrates with the surrounding bone and becomes part of the body.

Dental implants are the best option for people of all ages in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to an accident, gum disease, an injury,or some other reason. It is important that you have enough dental bone to support the implant. There are some health conditions that warrant special consideration. After careful evaluation of your health history, our dentists will alert you to any conditions that may effect your treatment.
- Bone regeneration
If the amount of bone is insufficient in either width or height, bone regeneration could be necessary to make the replacement of missing teeth by implants possible. Different bone regenerative procedures can be proposed, according to the specific site conditions.
- Sinus lift
Maxillary sinuses often reduce the bone height available in the posterior region of the upper maxilla. If needed, the sinus floor can then be elevated and a bone graft placed in this area to allow implant placement.

Procedure:
In most cases, dental implant surgery involves two procedures. The entire process, from evaluation to completion, usually takes six to eight months.
The procedure involves two main steps:
•        Insertion of Implants: Implants are surgically placed into your jawbone. These devices, which are typically made of titanium, form the framework for securely holding replacement teeth. This procedure can take up to six hours. Some patients experience minor pain and swelling immediately afterwards, although the surgeon can prescribe you a medication to relieve any discomfort.
For the next three to six months following surgery, the implants begin to bond with your jawbone beneath your gums, a process called osseointegration. During this period, you will able to wear temporary dentures, eat soft food and continue your normal daily routine.
•        Placement of Artificial Teeth (crown and bridge): Once your implants have completely bonded with your jawbone, the second phase of the procedure will be performed. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach small posts that act as anchors for the artificial teeth.
The dental implants are placed using a simple local anaesthetic, and sometimes with sedation if you are very nervous.
The placement of the implant is followed by a healing period of between 3 and 6 months in which the bone bonds to the implant.
At the end of the healing period, a return visit of between 5 and 15 days is required for the fitting of crowns. Many patients report dental implant surgery to be less troublesome than having teeth removed.
Recovery:
The vast majority of patients are extremely happy with their dental implants and experience a significant improvement in their quality of life. To achieve long-term success with your dental implants, proper brushing, flushing, rinsing and routine dental check-ups are essential. Your surgeon will discuss your follow-up care in more detail after your dental implant procedure.
Under proper conditions and with diligent oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.
